Low cost wedding Malta or Cyprus

Hi guys

My partner and I are hoping to get married later in the year, and definitely want to runaway to get married! We can only have a week away as we have a little boy who will be staying with Grandma for a week.

Has anyone married on a budget in Cyprus or Malta? I only suggest those 2 places as they both have no minimum residency which means that we should be able to do it within a week.

If anyone has done this, i'd love to hear from them!

Many thanks! xx

Cyprus has at least three days minimum residency. You also need an affidavit to prove that you are both free to marry.

I'm getting married in Malta in June. I'm Maltese myself so if you decide to go for Malta and need some advice on anything let me know. There is no minimum residency period (we had to check for my boyfriend since he is English).

We got married in Malta in Oct 06. We also went to Cyprus in Feb 08. Of the 2 islands, I would highly recommend Malta. Malta also has a minimum 3 day residency, you will need to visit a solicitor months before you go to get affidavits confirming you are free to marry and once you get out there, the wedding co-ordinator (we did it through Thomsons) takes you to Valetta town hall to check all your paperwork is in order and that's all you really have to do before the big day - apart from telling the wedding co-ordinator what you want for your big day. We married in Valetta rather than at the hotel we were staying at. You don't even have to take witnesses - our wedding co-ordinator and someone from his office were our witnesses.

When you meet with the co-ordinator, he gives you a list of options you can have - carnations, roses, cars, horse/carriage, hairdresser, make up, etc, etc, and you just say what you want (obviously depending on cost).

We had a horse drawn carriage ride around Valetta, which took us to the gardens where we had our photos taken and all the locals were sat outside the bars cheering us. It was great. We really felt special!!!
