Car Values

I seem to recall reading somewhere on this forum that you can keep your car up to a value of £2000. Ours is, according to Parker's worth £3000. We intend to argue to keep it for medical reasons. If they take it, do they allow you to buy a car?
In the beginning, there was nothing.
The Lord said "Let there be light".
There was still nothing, but you could see it.

    Hi,

If there is a genuine need for a vehicle, such as work, medical reasons, etc, then the OR can give an allowance of up to £2,000 towards a replacement. However, I would say your case is marginal, as you state it is worth £3,000 according to Parkers, it would probably reach less at auction, and then by the time the OR has paid agents fees too...........
  • Have a look at the value on www.wisebuyers.co.uk they seem to show more true values, i've always found parkers to be quite off the mark. Also include a copy of the valuation with your paperwork for the OR, otherwise the OR will value it themselves and may over value it as in another persons case on here where the value the OR came up with was double what the car was actually worth.

Also when you decide on the state of your car (A1, good, average, poor etc) do it from the point of view that you are looking at it to buy it, so adjust the price for area's that may need repair/replacement.
