Well, we started the claim on 23/09/08, had an interview on 01/10/08 and received a letter from them on 08/10/08 saying they would pay our award into our account as from 03/10/08 - but nothing in the letter said how much it would be and nothing has gone into our account (check every day).

We've now had a letter from the council saying they have suspended our house and council tax benefits "too avoid over payment" because they've had a benefits enquiry from the Job centre.
They also want us to send the letter proving our award - which we haven't been sent yet!

We are signing on on Tuesday, so hopefully it will get cleared up then.
  • Hi NoClue,

As Tigerfeet2006 has said, contact Shelter first thing Mon morn.

Our circumstances were slightly different, LL had verbally agreed to renew our tenancy, but when I requested it for HB & CTB he changed his mind. As we were two weeks from expiry and notice to quit was valid, we had to move.

After speaking to Shelter, I went straight down Council and put in a housing application, also asked to speak to homelessness officer. Within two weeks we were rehoused - albeit in a hostel waiting for perm house.

The good thing as that I won't have to worry about LL's deciding to change minds about renewing tenancy or deciding to sell when things get tough.

If you can 't afford to rent, then this may be a better option. If you fall into rent arrears then council will be a lot harder on you.

    Wish you all the best.
