Is anyone being traditional and being meat-free today?

I have no strong religious beliefs but we will be having fish for tea tonight....

got a fish pie cooking as we speak. Pollock fillets from Lidl (very MSE) with leeks and peas in the sauce, lovely mashed potato topping.
    Yummy.
  • Yes we are! I got some lovely cod from the fishmonger yesterday, and we will be trying to do 'posh fish n chips' at home tonight - I shall trawl my recipe books and the net for a good crispy beer batter (any suggestions welcomed), make my own chips and probably wizz up a pea and mint puree....

We have fish every Friday too!

I bought a whole salmon in Tesco for about £15 before xmas. The fishmonger, did it (all the nasty stuff) & cut it into fillets for me.

I think the last two can come out of the freezer for tonight.

I used to buy a lot more fish than I do.. .living in Lincolnshire we get a fish man comes from Grimsby... however I went off him having bought a Capon for Christmas from him and it came with the most shocking case of hock burn I have ever seen... It deffo was not a happy Capon. It ruined Christmas dinner for us really it was too late to get another and I was just aware that this poor bird had literally wallowed in it's own whotsit. Wasn't cheap either! To be fair his fresh fish was superb but that queered his pitch for me. Pollock I feel ok buying for pies I know it's Poor man's Cod but in a pie with a sauce... at least it's not depleting cod stocks..

Most of my days are meat free anyway, as I'm not really keen on it. DS will be having fish tonight, I will be having veg pizza.
