How do I approach the bank

Yesterday I had a D/D go out for my first day covers which took me £1.35 over my limit. i don't get any advance notification of these payments and just get a quarterly statement showing what i've paid for. this happened yesterday p.m. and when i spoke to the telephone banking at about 7 i transferred money so the balance was back from beyond the brink. They said that it might be worth ringing up and asking for the £28 not to be deducted as it was a same day and I had dealt with it. I have 5 accounts with the bank and have been with them 15 years - how should i approach this and will i get anywhere?
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

    Hi Rage,

If this is a one off and not a common situation for you they're very likely to wave the fee - especially for such a small amount and because you corrected it so quickly.

It might be worth stretching the truth a weeny bit and saying that the person you spoke to told you that if you contacted them to explain the situation that they WOULD be able to remove the charges for you.

At the end of the day (grrr - I could smack Craig and anfony) you've got nothing to lose except £28.00 of charges.

    Good Luck!!
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle
  • Who's the man? I's the man!!!! RBS Bank charges - ha I laugh in the face of bank charges! :j (you may gather from this that they have waived the fees - hurrah!)

Banks should always remember 2 very important things ;)
    1) Without us -when we are in credit - they'd have no money to play with, invest, lend out to other people and generally make lots more money from
    2) Without us - when we are in debt - they wouldn't make any money from us and therefore have lots less money to play with and make more money from.
Therefore they need us very very badly so they should be very very nice to us. :D

I like to remind my bank manager of this from time to time when he gets ideas above his station :D
