inheritance tax and transfer of allowance

Options
Wonder if anyone can please advise me here. a relation of mine passed away last Jan 2008 leaving me as chief beneficiary and executor of her will , I have been collecting as much information bank details etc in order to cut solicitor costs and hopefully speed things up fro probate purposes.I have, though, hit a snag over the transfer of allowances between spouses. The deceased's husband died in 1992 and I would assume a will would be necessary to ascertain how much he left and to whom.Problem is I dont think he left a will. On top of that his solicitor no longer operates and neither does the firm he was attached to.Therefore I am stuck unsure of what to do. I know they had no children and at the time of his death he left nothing to myself or his other next of kin.His wife simply took possession of all his assets. Thing is how does one prove this and what will the revenue require? Thanks for any advice
