Smaller Building Societies retreating

Just heard on the news that smaller building societies have been overwhelmed with applications for mortgages, and have now withdrawn all but SVR rates (Bath and Shipton), or restricted applicants to within their traditional locality Newbury, Melton Mowbray and Tipton
