Interestingly I wrote a cheque for £7000 from Co Op Bank and paid into my LLoyds Bank account. When I was advised the cheque had cleared on the 4th worklng day I then withdraw the money from my account. However the next day the cheque was bounced because I made a mistake on it. My account was £7k overdrawn but had an overdraft limit of £9k but they started charging me interest until the account was back in credit. I spoke to the manager and they agreed to waive all interest charges and it seems to be a cheque can be returned 6 months later. I thought it had to be in about 4 working days.
  • I agree with chadsman it is the postal delay that causes the problem, and after 6 months the cheque is out of date anyway. The bank has up until the day after is is received to return it as a late return, after that it is too late.

No a cheque cannot be returned up to 6 months after it has been presented for payment. I won't go into the details again see my previous post.
  • JanCee is 100% correct.
