Yes. Get him to make a phone call. I've had my GP phone up the hospital before (while I was sat there) and give them both barrels. Amazing what that does.
You eat the barium, and since its a heavy metal, it shows up opaque on X rays. It allows them to see soft tissue better, so they can see if there are any blockages, leaks or twists in your intestines.
