Can't order glasses online!!!

I'm angry that I have just paid to have my eyes tested by D&A, but the D&A prescription does not allow me to place an order for my new glasses online. Apparently this is legal!
Basically D&A have measured everything except my pupil distance (PD) which is required to dispense my glasses. D&A are happy for me to take my prescription to another high street store, but they are stopping me from ordering online. How can this be legal?
What is the point of paying for a prescription given the optician doesn't supply everything that is required to place an order elsewhere? It sounds like closed room practice which I thought was illegal. Its not my fault D&A and other High Street stores charge too much. Businesses are not charities that need propping up my the general public!
Upto now I have always taken my prescription on holiday with me and placed an order abroad. This usually saves me atleast 50%. For example, replacing lenses in the UK usually costs a minimum of £80. I got exactly the same in Prague for £16! Why do we accept such exploitative practices and rip-off charges?

If you ask nicely they will tell you your PD.
You can get another person to measure it for you.
Anyhow, hope you took advantage of the half price (£10) eye test if booked online! It was free a while back (but then I found a pair of frames I liked, and some shades and before you know it I had blown £350!)0 -
glassesdirect.co.uk tell you how to measure the pupil distance on their website. No doubt others do as well. It is quite straightforward, I had to do it myself when I ordered specs from them.
Don't let it stop you from saving a fortune!0 -

I got three different people to measure it for me using a ruler. I got three measurements that were very close to each other, so I just averaged them. I can't believe D&A would be so mean!A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Hi,
If it makes you feel better I took advantage of D&As offer of free eye test for contacts.
Took that prescription and ordered my glasses from Gasses Direct.
Excellent glasses and service and only cost £25.00.
So thank you D&A.
Ps I believe BOOTS are now doing the same offer.
Regarding the PD you can give them a pair of your old galsses to work from."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
If you post off an old pair of your glasses a good online retailer will be able to measure your pupil distance from those.0

How different were the measurements? - this should worry you.
It is quite difficult to do with a ruler as you can only get the ruler so close. You then have to account for parallax errors. If your friend has a similar PD to you then he/she can centre himself and use one eye to measure one, and the other eye for the other (if you see what I mean)
Also, did you do monocular, or binocular PD measurements? We can have surprisingly asymmetric faces you know!0
