Extra money for working over Easter?

Hi guys

I have a question for a friend:

She will be working over the Easter period (e.g.: Friday, Saturday and the Monday).

She is employed by a promotional agency on a basis where she is not guaranteed a set number of hours per week. She generally works 6 days a week.

Is EVERYONE entitled to extra money if they work on one of these days?

Thanks in advance

No one is entitled to extra money to work bank holidays. Some companies offer it, but this is at their discretion, it is not statutory.

Last time I looked into this, about 12 years ago, no body was required to work on these days either. If your employer wanted you to work these days he had to offer you an incentive.

Yes there were exceptions, but in general a bank holiday is a day off and if you work it it is at your discretion and if you do work it you want something extra in return.

This is not the case anymore. This only applies to Sunday working.

If someone is freelance they can choose whether or not they wish to work on bank holidays. The employer is not obliged to offer extra payment, although of course if staff are difficult to get on a freelance basis then they might have to.

It is also worth noting that Saturday is not a bank holiday so extra payments would not be due in any case.

The Saturday isn't a bank holiday - just a normal working day
