Debit Card question
Bald_Runner
When we realised we were having problems, we were with the RBS and owed them some money – a loan and an overdraft. We opened a new bank account with Barclay's, a debit card account; we told them we were proposing an IVA. If I now go BR because the IVA proposal looks set to be rejected, Barclay's told me that I will have to revert to a ‘cash card’ account. I was told that it may be some years before being allowed a debit card again, even after discharge. Any views or experiences please?
In the beginning, there was nothing.

the co-op bank is the only bank that will give a debit card to undischarged BR's. after discahrge you might have a few more options
co op are a very good bank with excellent customer service and internet banking.
Not too many branches, but you can put money in and withdraw at the post office
good luck with it allBelieve nothing, no matter where you read it, or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense0 -
Unfortunatly Barclays only offer a cash accounts to bankrupts. As Jono says Co-op cashminder has an electron card.

Don't be so sure. There are quite a few people here that the Co-op happily gave that account to despite going BR owing them loads.
And if you did get an account with them after BR it would be illegal for them to raid your account to pay the former debts.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Agreed....one of my biggest creditors were barclays & they were falling over themselves to give me a basic account...stayed with the co-op though in the endWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0
