New MFW!!

I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I have been a lurker here for many months and have now actually got round to posting. Let me tell you abit about myself.
I am desparate to be mortgage free but it's going to be a long journey. I would love to be mortgage free by the time i'm 40, 12 years and counting!. I am lucky that I am in my 'forever house' so to speak in that I have a 3 bed semi, 2 kids (no more planned!), in a nice area and no real need to move up the ladder.
As a result of this forum I have a mortgage pig! which gets drip fed every day ish. so I have made a start on the over payments but although my husband and I have fairly good jobs we don't have that much left over at the end of the month! (need to post SOA on DFW!) however my target this year is to over pay £1000 I know it doesn't sound like alot but we have also decided to take a trip of a lifetime to OZ and NZ next year and we are frantically saving for that.
Anyway sorry to go on but just looking for some words of advice/encouragement to get me started.

Thanks in advance.

HI and welcome to the site, good luck with your journey mine is long too so will be nice to motivate each other. We don't have a lot to throw at mortgage either but every little bit helps.

  • Budgeting has been the key for me, both when money was really tight to live on, and now I have a bit more but want to chuck as much of it at the mortgage as possible (I have 5-and-a-bit years until my 40th!).

So make the time to sit down and work out where all the regular money goes, then all the 'irregular' money, and see what hints and tips you can get on the DFW and OS boards. A lot of the stuff we do ehre on the MFW board is similar - minimise outgoings, maximise value-for-money, ebay spare stuff etc.

    Good luck!
