Transport Allowance - missing a trick?

Options
Hi to all,

Long time reader and lurker but never a poster (til now :) )-

Have a quick question -

At present, I am paid a basic salary and a transport allowance (taken to include costs of however I choose to get myself to the office/business meetings etc.)(I choose to drive/park etc.)

At the moment both are obviously taxed (PAYE) and I bear the costs of transport - petrol, parking, wear and tear, insurance, HP, etc - which usually total a great deal more than my transport allowance - is there any way of me offsetting this against my tax liabilities?

Cheers

JB

It depends on why you incur these transport costs. The cost of getting to and from your normal place of work is not tax deductable, but travelling between work and external meetings, etc is allowable.
