I'm SURE my laptop has a virus. HELP!

I can't connect to the internet or if I do I get kicked off almost immediately. I had 15 trojan horses on my laptop last week and though I'm scanning everyday and it's all clear I'm sure the laptop has a virus. I have a PC and that connects no bother.
I have microsoft ant-virus which scans every morning at 6a.m. and AVG which scans at 8a.m. This morning AVG found 2 trojan horses on my dialler.
How can I clean the laptop?
Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Have you checked for spyware? try lavasoft from https://www.lavasoftusa.com and spybot search and destroy. It could be that you might have spyware on your pc. But if you keep getting dropped off the internet is a strage problem. Go to https://www.syamntec.com and do a free online virus check. Also have you updated Avg recently?
  • You might also have a roughue dialer on your pc so be careful as you might end up with a high phone bill.

Go to http://www.bt.com/btprivacyonline/ and download the software to stop that happenning

Thank you so much but unfortunately I can't stay on long enough to download any of them.
I should have said that I also have spybot!

The MSBlast virus can cause your computer to re-start itself frequently. If it is doing this, please follow the instructions below:
      • Click on the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen
      • Select 'Run'
      • Type in the word "command" (without quotes)
      • Click the 'OK' button
      • You will then see a black MS-DOS prompt window
      • After the :\> prompt, type "shutdown -a" (without quotes).
This prevents the computer from shutting down. You can now remove the viruses from your computer.

Thanks for your reply Browntoa. However, it's the connection that won't stay on!
      I'm at my wit's end!
    • Perhaps its your modem that is on the brink. Do you have an external or internal modem?

It's an external Alcatel Speedtouch which is okay on my PC where I am just now.
    • That means there might be a setting on the other pc with keeps disabling the modem. It could be that once the modem goes idle it could disconnect. Try fiddling with the modem properties and see if that works.

Margaret - if you still think you have a virus on the laptop, you could download the installation program of an anti-virus program (like AVG, Avast!) on your main PC, copy it to floppy/CD/USB pen drive and then copy it into your laptop without having to connect the laptop to the Internet.

Run the installation program on your laptop and then do a virus scan.
    • Im having a similar problem with my laptop but mine just wont connect ever to the internet? I havent been able to connect for 4 nights now. I contacted NTL support and they said it is either my Zone Alarm settings or Macfee Settings but I have checked them and they are fine???

I havent got a clue what else it could be? I recently run Adaware and so thats up to date and I very rarely download anything.

Help? I am on broadband and connect through the set top box
