Is there such a thing as a lampshade adaptor?

Just bought a lampshade for a standard lamp in the sale. However the plastic ring that attaches to the lamp is miles too big.
Does anyone know if you can buy some sort of adaptor?

I had that problem, and I rested my lampshade very dangerously above the bit that holds the lightbulb. But mine was for a ceiling lamp.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Their is an adaptor a brass bush threaded inside and out a good hardware store should stock them but in my experience there are at least 3 sizes of fitting as the adaptor didn't work
but it was closer - close enough that with a layer or Araldite it held firmTANSTAAFL !0 -
They do exist...Ikea used to sell them for about 20p, though that is going back a good few years now, so don't rush there specially...just making the point that the problem you have has been addressed in the past. Maybe a look at B&Q's or Homebase's websites would give you your answer.0

You can buy them in branches of BHS that have lighting departments, & in the lighting sections of department stores. They cost about £10 though. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I just phoned the lighting shop I bought the shade from and they said that I need a "shade carrier" which they sell for £1.95!!
If only the sales assistant had drawn my attention to this yesterday as it is a 15 mile round trip into town for me
Can't seem to find any that can be ordered online0 -

think ikea still sell them, and they are 10-20p. sometimes you need 20 -
I have the opposite problem. Ordinary lampshades have too small a hole to fit on my IKEA lamp .... IKEA are too far away to go for just a lampshade & anyway I would like more choice.
Does anyone know of a solution??0 -
