How long can you be chased for a debt? Does anyone know? I have had a debt collection agency on my back for a debt they " think " may be 10 years old. I have no recollection of this debt ( a credit card ). Can they still pursue me? How can they prove this debt is mine after so long? More importantly, how can I prove this is not my debt if that is the case? Do banks hold details this long? I am very worried as the supposed debt is over £3000 and I don't have it. Help!!

It's up to them to prove you owe it, not the other way round.
Plus, if you haven't acknowledged the debt in writing or by making a payment for 6 years (5 in Scotland) the debt is "Statute Barred" under the relevant Limitation Act and it is no longer enforceable.
Have a read through whichever factsheet below is appropriate to you, and then if you think it applies send the letter at the end.
