Portable air conditioning

Options
Anyone got a suggestion for a cheapish portable air conditioning unit? I work from home and have far too many computers going for a small room; and really need to cool it down. Any suggestions?

Had exactly the same problem last year, working from home, small room, lots of computers etc.

Puchased a 9000BTU from Homebase for around £140. Unlike some of the other cheap ones it had a timer, thermostat and digital controls. I've seen it on special offer at a similar price most years at Homebase but stock levels seem to be variable.

Only downsides apart from the noise (impossible to make a phonecall whilst it was on), was that the vent pipe was short with a plastic end that kept falling off so a little difficult to vent through a window and position the unit effectively. Also the cold air doesn't have any directability and I found that in a small room with my back to the window most of the time the cold air was being blown at force at the back of my neck. However a little ingenuity with some cardboard and duct tape soon fixed that!

One thing to consider is that portable air-con units are big and blooming heavy, so make sure you have somewhere to put it when the winter comes as it's not the sort of thing you can carry up in to a loft.
