Currys/Comet ex display discounts?

I'm looking to buy a new TV as our present CRT one has developed a green/purple screen!
Does anyone know if any stores like Currys or Comet give any discounts on display models?
If so, is it only at certain times, or could I just go and ask if I can buy "that one" and ask for a discount?

To be honest hight street stores only tend to give 10 - 20% discount on display stock.
The problem with Tv's is how long have they been switched on for? A display model would probably have had over a years normal use at least before you buy it.
Stores will only sell the display model if it's a discontinued line, and its the last one in stock.
Discountined lines in Currys & Pc World can be identified with the price ending in .97.
What we did when purchasing ours is we spent a Sunday going around these shops and trying out the various tv's, noting their model numbers and then looking online for the best price - you'll probably find it at least 20% cheaper that way anyway.
Also remember that Currys, Comet, and Pcworld will price-match and give 10% off the difference if you find cheaper elsewhere... so that's another thought.
Last though is that also John Lewis will price match high street stores, plus their tv's come with a 5 year warranty which is worth serious consideration.0 -
Comet have a clearance auction site http://www.clearance-comet.co.uk/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/CategoryDisplay?cgrfnbr=36513&cgmenbr=37087214&noMoreSubs=N if that is any help.0
