Ok, biiiig caveat here is that your mileage may vary. I can't guarantee this will work for you, I'm only relaying what just happened to me.
If you're looking to buy something pricey from the Apple store (I imagine the pricier the better but you never know), find exactly what you want at https://www.apple.com/ukstore and put it in your basket.
Do not go through with the purchase. Save your basket. This may necessitate setting up an AppleID, I'm not sure but I already had one. It's the same as the one you use with iTunes.
Now wait......
I got a call the next day from a fairly persistent sales advisor asking if there was any reason why I did not complete my purchase and offering to 'facilitate' the sale by means of a discount.
I know there are people out there who'll just pretend to be a student to get a discount, but it appears that this discount is in addition to that discount. I personally didn't pretend to be a student.
Upshot is, I got nearly £200 off the list price for the mid-level MacBook Pro.
It's worth a shot as it's not going to cost you anything.
