Advice needed!

Hi,

I've sent paperwork to cccs re DMP and part of my debt is an overdraft with my bank. CCCS advised me to set up new bank account which I have done but not all Direct Debits and Salary payments been sorted yet. I'm worried that my bank will freeze my account before priority dd's have been paid. Has anyone any experience of this?

Ask CCCS if they have contacted the creditors to let them know that a DMP is in progress?

You could stop the direct debits and send token payments with a letter until your DMP kicks in! Do you have internet access to the account that they come out of?

Direct Debits still to come out of account are for Mortgage & Pension. Husbands salary paid in on 20th, DD's taken out on 21st and 25th. After that I'm not too concerned as I'll hopefully have transferred remaining salary to new bank account. Just hope that bank won't have frozen account. Can they do this?

Not sure! Have you asked CCCs?

If you have internet access to your account check on the days that these payments are due to be made, then you can contact CCCs quickly if the amounts are refused.

Yes they can . If you owe bank money they can take it from your account. And it has happened to people on here .

Not asked CCCS but hope that I can get it sorted quickly. One of debts is credit card from bank and t&c's stat that they are able to take any available money from bank account to pay overdue amounts. I've paid token payments to them in regard to this but don't think CCCs have spoken to all creidtors yet. Just usual worries re starting DMP I suppose. Can't wait til it's all set up and I can get on with proper budgeting!

    Hi dmom,

You should be able to transfer any DD's straight away to your new account. All you need to do is let all the priority companies know the sort code and account number of your new account. Also if your husband informs his employers with the same information they should be able to pay next month's wages into the new account.

It's important that you do it ASAP to minimise the risk of your creditors taking more than you can afford to pay them if they choose to dip into your existing account.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Matthew,

As Husbands salary due to be paid tomorrow too short notice for his hr dept to change bacs transfer details will be sorted for next month. But DD's are due at end of this month. Just gonna have to keep clos eye on account to make sure debits aren't made by bank.

    Thanks for advice.

I'm sure that will be fine. You could always go down to your bank and withdraw his salary as soon as her gets paid and pay it straight into the new account if things get a bit tight this month.
