Best deal I could find on the Jorvik centre was using Tesco Clubcard vouchers.
If you get stuck for things to do then why not Register at Walkers for the National Trust free family or day passes to enter one or more of the Museums/Houses/Gardens in York. Just look for the multipacks of crips with the offer on. They are BOGOF in Tesco so you wouldn't need to buy very many.0 -
Thanks very much Barnabee, didn't relise Walkers were doing that offer.
Will go to Tescos today.
many thanks once again.0 -

There is a York pass which costs £21 but gives you entrance to loads of places

Also dont forget the railway museum which is free and ideal if the weather turns nasty.
If you love history there are free guided walks around the city, check tourist info for times - there is a tourist info at the railway station. The walks are quite long so better for mad enthusiastics - my teenagers were bored ridgid.
If you like Time Team visit Hungate where there is a dig going on, For a small charge you can go on a guided tour of the dig site - they have uncovered a Victorian street and it is really fascinating.
At the end of the shambles is a church hall place where you can get a nice cup of coffee/tea, soup and a bun etc, not overpriced, sort of place only locals know about.
This weekend it is going to be very very busy with tourists so if you are going anywhere go early, the place fills up after midday.
There is still time just about to send for Tesco deals meal vouchers and there are several places that take Tesco meal vouchers plus a nice Wetherspoons if you got the coupons in the post. Also a Yates but not tried this yet.
We have been going to and from York for years and our eldest is a second year uni student there now hence why we know so much about York, PM me if there is anything you would like to ask.“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
Wow, thank you sooo much mhoc.
We're going to the railway museum and had seen that it was free on the website. Ideal , like you say, for a rainy or not so nice day.
Yes have got my wetherspoons vouchers ready and my friend had told me about St Crooks for a nice cuppa and a piece of homemade cake lol.
All we need now is nice weather and a good time will be had by all, even if it rains too lol.
Thank you once again. x0 -
Yes Wetherspoons is round the back of Cliffords Tower, posh loos as well.
This is the ghost walk to go on, we went in the summer, not my usual sort of thing but it was really good!

Another good place to eat is an all you can eat Chinese, prices vary according to the day/time - trying to think what it is called now. But even a picky eater (like me!) found loads to eat.
I also seem to think that on this discount thread there is a link that gives you £10 off a meal at HaHas which would be useful if you are not using your Tesco deals thing. OK found it, well worth having a meal there, thye do the most gorgeous stick chips
HA!HA! £10 off when you spend over £20
HA!HA bars are offering £10 off when two people spend £20 or more on food. The offer's valid until the end of March and can't be combined with other offers or used on Mother's Day or Easter Sunday. Find your nearest HA!HA! Print voucher: HA!HA!
Also if you go to Harkers opposite Bettys Tea rooms they do a lovely cheesy garlic bread!
There is a heck of a lot of walking in York so I hope you have been in training. Your leg muscles, even after a weekend are so soarBuses are good and plentiful but the traffic is so congested its often quicker just to walk.

If you go into the Tourist Info Centre, look out for a booklet called 'what's on york'. (It will probably also be available in some other places with leaflet stands -eg. inside the cinema, near the lift and bar.) The current edition (Mar / Apr) has the following vouchers:
p.16 - YorkBoat - £1 discount per person
p.18 - El Piano Cafe and Vegetarian Eaterie - 10% discount on food
- Russells Restaurants - 10% discount on your entire restaurant bill (valid for up to four people)
p.19 - York Dungeon - two for one
Hope to help. Have a lovely time!0 -
Thank you all so, so much for your replies. I can assure you, it is very much appreciated.
I'm sure we will have a great time, even if it rains as there's so much to do.
Good job there will be plenty of walking to walk off all the grub lol .
Thanks again x0
