Can't Uninstall a Programme

A long time ago I used to use a programme called Free Agent and am now trying to uninstall it in my effort to "clean up" my computer and make it run faster. When I go to the Add/Remove Programs page and click on this one I get the following:
"Could not open
INSTALL.LOG file"
What can I do about this please - what does it mean?

reinstall it, then uninstall it, something (e.g. ccleaner?) has deleted the log file, so it doesn't know how to uninstall itself.
Alternatively, you can use the manual method of deleting the files, and cleaning up any registry entries, but it is less precise.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Uninstalling Free Agent won't make your computer faster.0

Hi Albertross, Couple of things:
You asked me to post a log last weeks. I did this but you have not commented. I was expecting you would tell me what to get rid of in that long list.
RE Free Agent. As far as I know it was put together by a German University and it was great but I did get lots of Spam using all the groups I was interested in so I stopped. The University then started charging for it, therefore, I expect it will not be possible to reinstall, will it??0 -

Is it Forte Agent? or another Free Agent? There is no such proggy that you can't uninstall.Founder member MSE Jet Airways Mile High Club

I think you'll find "uninstalling unwanted startup programs" was part of it. A program sat on a hard drive doing nothing can't use any processing power so it's not slowing the computer down.0 -
Jake'sGran, use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to uninstall the reference to the program in Add/Remove Programs, reinstall the Free Agent version you have (or install this one here if you no longer have the installer for that version) and then uninstall the program via Add/Remove Programs. The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.0

Yes, it is Forte Free Agent. Last night I installed something else that was advised and what a mess I was in tonight. Took me 1.5 hours to get rid of the stuff that was popping up at startup and then I finally managed to System Restore. It was Armor something or other. I probably did something wrong. People like me should keep it simple!0 -

Forte Agent is a great program, i've been using it since v1.5. As has been pointed out, Agent is not likely to cause your computer to slow down. If you really don't want it, just delete the folder it is installed on in C drive. Armour is a personal firewall and you will see pop-ups as it asks you which programs are allowed access to the internet. You need to download CCleaner, it really is a must have program http://www.ccleaner.com. It will, most likely, speed up your computer...using tools, registry and cleaner functions.Founder member MSE Jet Airways Mile High Club
