deferring state pension.....question

if you defer your state pension by a year but lets say you fall ill within that 1st year and you need your money because you cannot work could you then ask to get your state pension. I am told you would lose your right. any tips appreciated.

    you could claim your state pension at any point , subject to 2 points

    1) to receive a lumpsum you have to have deferred for 12months or more

    2) increments only are given given for periods of deferral of 5 weeks or more.

    I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
