No Longer Self Employed

I recently decided to stop my home business, as I got a very nice promotion at work.

Anyone know which department of the Inland Revenue I need to write to tell them I'm no longer self employed? I tried ringing my local tax office, who said they would post me a form. They posted me a form to register at self employed.

Write to your tax office and send it recorded delivery. Also when you complete your 2007/08 tax return put your cessation date in box 3.8 on the self-employment supplementary page SA103.

Good luck this can be an uphill battle particulary stopping all the mail from various departments.

1) Contact the National insurance office to cancel your class 2 National Insurance payments.

2) as previous poster advised, make sure you put your date of cessation on the tax return. Not sure which box it will be as the Tax Return is changing this year.

Make sure you get your tax return submitted in plenty of time (Before end of october if you want to file via paper return, otherwise you will have to submit online after this deadline) It will make no difference whatsoever if you write to the tax office to explain that you are no longer self employed if you do not show the date of cessation, or if you submit your return close to the final deadline of 31/01/09, as the Self Assessment system will not have the chance to remove you from the selection process for the 2008/09 tax return issue, or if you don't show the date will not know that you are no longer self employed.
