Tax rules for sporting sponsorship

Options
I am part of an amateur sporting team that up until recently funded all expenses personally. We managed to secure sponsorship where the deal is that the sponsor would refund 50% of our training and competition expenses, including things like travel expenses abroad for training camps (flights, car hire etc), coaching fees, competition entry fees etc.

This is being done that we present the sponsor with a list of expenses at the end of every month, and the sponsor hands over the cash to cover 50%. Does this count as extra income for ourselves? would it legally have to be declared and taxed? or as it is sponsorship can we just continue the arrangement we have?

Is your club not properly consitituted and registered with HMRC or the CC? If not, then it should be or you are potentially liable to tax as people trading as sportsmen. iI you are properly constituted and registered and the agreement is between the club and the business, then the income is that of the club, not individuals.
