Can someone help me identify which lender this is?

    Hi Boots, so you've wasted 4 brokers time with no intention to use them, now your asking brokers for further free advice on here and your wasting your time phoning round lenders with little real clue how the process works. Why?

    Martins advice in this area is wrong. Use one of the free brokers that you spoke to, it also means your mortgage will have FOS protection (advised sale vs non advised), and they will manage the whole process.

    They may not have the same (Bank of Ireland) deal, but if 5 yr fixed is what you want there are loads of similar cost, eg 5.62% £995 fee but free legals & free valuation.

    Could be that the broker has changed the figures slightly (eg charge of 995 not 999) to prevent you attempting what you have just tried to do!

    If you had no intention of using a fee charging broker, wouldn't it have been more ethical and less hassle to look for a fee free broker in the first place?

    Good point Silvercar, many lenders are charging that fee and rates near that.

    Hi silvercar - I appreciate your comments, and of course you are right. However, I really have to do the best for myself, and all that I am doing here is following Martin's guide! I think Martin himself comments it is a bit cheeky, but we are in the moneysaving game and personally, if I have a choice between paying a few grand fee, or no fee, I am going to do my utmost to not pay it I'm afraid.

    L&C were the only free broker and they didn't have this same deal unfortunately. Of course if I can't find which one it is, I will need to weigh up the cost of using the broker, versus the best other deal I can find, and see which is cheapest.

    Hi Dan,

    It doesn't need to be fasttrack, it just sounded like a nice option and worth considering. I don't want to draw out the moving process any longer than necessary lol. This is the first time we've had to buy and sell at the same time, as last time we were first time buyers. So a bit wary of anything going wrong, and having a hassle free mortgage sounded like something to consider that's all.

    There are hundreds of fee free brokers out there you don't just need to use the ones reccomended by Martin.

    If its free val it sounds Abbey. Although I was told today that the 5.59% was for existing clients only and that new clients it was 5.63%??
