Looks a brill buy. On the point of Servis, we have had our Servis Dishwasher for 10+ years, and never called the engineer, it was the cheapest model I could find those years ago, so I didn't pay for quality. But its been a true friend!:D:j0

Ed,
I presume you purchased the Servis machine after 31st March 2003? If so you should be covered by the new Sales and Supply of Goods to Consumers Act 2002. Under which the retailer is responsible for repairing or replacing goods during their expected life if a manufacturing defect comes to light. If the goods are only 18 months old, and you have a local repairer willing to state it's a manufacturing defect I suspect you would have a very strong case.
A trip to your local Citizen's Advice Bureau would probably be very beneficial.

Thanks Rufus...
It was purchased before then (Jan 2003)... from a retailer that went into liquidation (Powerhouse) and re-ermerged as 'New' Powerhouse - consequently it wasn't their problem! Nor was is Barclaycard's (next recourse)...
I made do with the launderette a while before getting a man in to look at it recently (hence the gap).
Like everything, I think you know how good a company is when things go wrong - it's how they react then. Do they care or don't they... do they do the right thing or wash their hands of it?
Actually looking at the scortch mark on the plastic module holding I'm lucky it didn't catch fire!0 -
Unfortunate indeed. I've purchased a PC system before from a supplier that went bust, and rose phoneix like from the ashes another two times (ditching their warranty obligations each time).
As the goods were over £100 it *should* have been barclaycards responsibility - they are jointly liable. I know the Consumers Association (aka Which) have supported members getting money out of credit card companies for faulty goods when the company has gone bust.
Purchasing before Jan 2003 weakens your position, but the 2002 legislation just re-affirmed existing rights and made them EU wide. AFAIK you are still entitled for goods to be fault free for reasonable time.
Probably worth chalking up to experience but you might get some money back with a heavy fight!
If it's any help my expensive AEG washer/dryer (£600+) has developed 3 faults in 2 years, and Electrolux who "own" the brand aren't over helpful when it comes to supporting it. So paying extra for quality doesn't always ensure reliability!

Mine just turned up a week after ordering it.Very efficient service. They plumbed it in and even offered to take the old one away.As for the washing machine itself it looks great in stainless steel.Havent used it yet cause the mrs doesnt get home till later. The one it replaced is also a service which is going strong after 4 years with no problems whatsoever.A great bargain as long as the extra clubcard points get added.-....-.---.---. ..... .- -.-.

Just an update folks... and long may it be that you don't have problems with your Servis machine...
... the 'official' parts supplier just quoted me £340 (inc VAT) for a new motor (£145 + VAT), circuit board module (£113 + VAT) and plastic module holder (£25 + VAT)... then there would be the labour... i.e. an 18 month old machine is a write-off.
The machine originally cost £250! I dont really know how they justify such prices for parts but if your machine lasts great, if it doesn't beware!!!0 -

Well i bought the washing machine 2 months ago and still havent been credited with the points.Have been on the phone to tesco today who first of all denied it had ever been on offer with the extra points and when i told them i still had the original email they then said the offer only started on the 20th aug (mine was delivered on the 19th how convenient). The email was sent on the 9th of august and i placed an order on the 10th aug.Luckily i took a screen dump of the link from the email where nothing is mentioned about dates (and anyway the screen dump shows it comes with 5369 points). Will be interesting to see how tesco try and get out of the rubbish they have been spouting so far.-....-.---.---. ..... .- -.-.

Please keep us posted on Clubcard points as I am seriously considering this . My washer dryer (a Servis) has lost the plot but as it is after 7 years of VERY intense work I am not really complaining and this looks good provided the points are forthcoming.
Thanks for the posts so far scooter100.0 -
It doesnt mention the 5000 points on the site or at least i couldnt find it.
On reliability My mum had a servis that kept breaking down....I have just replaced my zanussi after 17 years with no bdowns in that time and for a 6 year period in that time it was used twice every day.0 -
Just watch this!!!The link on the page says you have to sign up to Powergen to get the higher points.Just make sure before you buy that you are not agreeing to this.0
