Mortgage application....do I sense a problem?...help..anyone?

Hi,
I am worrying about our re-mortgage application...
We decided to remortgage to consolidate some credit cards...approx 7k oweing, the rest will go on home improvements and to top up our savings for our wedding in June...
We owe 152k at the mo and applied for an extra 13k. House according to index value is about 172000 (which is what we actually paid for it last May so may have gone up??) so borrowing 96% ltv.
The bank have asked for 3 months bank statements, 1 month salary slip and explainations for any charges we have had.

Should also state salaries...
I'm on 28k which is guaranteed to go up to approx 30k in June + corporate bonus of 10%
OH is on 23k

I have been a naughty girl and at the beginning of the year had 2 charges due to a mobile phone direct debit and then the other was as a result of the flipping bank charging me!
I have had a couple of charges previous to this but it really is one or two...could this affect our re-mortgage and does it sound like we could struggle to get the re-mortgage by what they have asked for??
The bank is Halifax btw
Worrier

  • should I be more worried that no-one has replied? Please be honest with your opinions x
  • I can't comment on whether you should be worried, but I am alarmed that you are taking out secured borrowing over the term of your mortgage to pay for your wedding. Whilst it's a big day and to be enjoyed, getting into (further) debt for it is drastic.

have you looked at the wedding section on here for ideas of making a smaller amount of money go further? Is all the money for the wedding already committed? I'm getting married in July, so know how it can build up, but a lifetime of debt is not something I'd be prepared to do. Nor would the family and friends coming to the wedding want me to saddle myself with that debt.

Given all the publicity over the last few days/weeks that the banks are tightening up you might have cause for worry.
Have you got a weekly/monthly budget. This might help you avoid the "problems" you have had with charges against you. You might call yourself naughty the bank may have a different opinion.
    Good Luck
