'Holding Accounts' Advice needed please.

Good Morning All! - Mods please feel free to move if i have whacked this post in the the wrong forum...

I purchased 2 dresses from coast last Monday... Cost £250 or there abouts. I attempted to make the payments online with my Barclays Debit card, the transaction was declined, and i was advised to try again, did so, and again transaction declined. Thought this was odd, as there was money in the account to cover the costs. Anyway, i paid by CC, and transaction was accepted.

Check my Barclays account Tuesday... Find my account is in its overdraft... panic... total up amount... comes to £500... the amounts of 2 lots of coast dresses... coast have attempted to take the monies twice.

Contact Coast... they assure me that the CC payment is the one they have accepted and the Barclays payments have been rejected by them, so the monies should now be sitting in a Barclays holding account.

This is my question, is it as simple as marching into Barclays and asking them to release the monies back to me? Or is a more long winded, time consuming process which will test my patience to the max?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
MysticNacho

Best thing to do is give it 2 working days for the authorisations to be cleared from your account. If you're still overdrawn then call Barclays.
  • I have been waiting 5 working days since the payments were 'rejected' from coast... i would have assumed (worst thing to do i know) that the payments would have been credited back to my account by now... As Barclays are currently charging me a whole 70p for being in my overdraft...

I'll call into the branch... tried finding a number to ring, but to be honest if its routed to an overseas call centre i would hang up immediately anyway.

    Thanks!
  • This happened to me in Morrisons although it was only for £40.

Halifax said the money was being 'held' by morrisons.

I phoned the supermarket and refused to come off the phone till someone sorted it - they did.

The girl at halifax basically said that the money was showing as being in my account but i couldn't touch it as Morrisons had a claim on it (best way she could decribe it). It meant no-one else could take it unless they told the bank that they didn't want/need it any more.

Phone Coast back and refuse to come off the phone till it is sorted then write a letter of complaint and hope for a voucher .... :)

  • FINALLY! After an hour in Barclays yesterday its been sorted... the money has credited my account today...

Have contacted Coast again just to advise them that their error has cost me a whole 70p in interest. Not expecting anything, just glad to have the money in my account!! I have wedding rings to pay for!!

    Thanks for your advice!
