Missing Documents

Hi,
I paid emergency tax from 10/2003-01/2005 I want to find out if I can claim any refunds.Unfortunately I can't find any of my payslips and most importantly P60 and P45. Should write to the company and request copies or just write to HMRC giving them my details and the dates that I worked for the company? Any thoughts on this will be appreciated.

Ps:searched the forum first but found nothing concrete on my situation.

Write to your tax office setting out the dates and details of each employment for the years concerend and ask them to check for a refund. No point in going back to old employers at this stage.

Thanks for the reply but does anyone know which tax office; I was living in Rugby.

Your tax office will be the one which deals with your current or last employer. If you dont know which it is, you can ring the HMRC helpline, giving them your Ni number and they will tell you the name and address.
