Student, 2 jobs, emergency tax

Options
I currently work a few hours a week with an educational print firm, few nights a week in a club, both are irregular hours. The educational firm gave me a p38 to complete though I now realize its only meant for holiday work when it is in fact a term time job. The job in the club has me on tax code 0BR which I think is emergency? Have I screwed up by completing a p38 and if so how would I sort it out? Also is it worth changing my tax code at the club or is it easy enough to simply claim it all back at some point? I'd prefer this as it would stop me spending it if it were part of my pay.

As you have said you should not have filled out the P38 as you are working term time.

BR is Basic Rate which means all of your pay is being taxed at 22% with no tax-free allowances. It's not the emergency tax. It's normally used when people have 2 jobs and the 1st job is using the tax code.

What tax code is the educational firm using?

Is it something I need to chase up with the firm or the tax office?

I'm not sure why the club is taxing me basic rate as it was my only job for a couple of weeks so they wouldn't of known about me taking on another job. The firm hasn't paid me yet as I've only been there a week so I'm yet to see what code they'll use.

You should have filled in a P46 at both jobs. Best thing to do would be to go to each and ask for a P46 so that you can get proper tax codes for each.

If you have no luck with that then phone HMRC.

To add to what jem says, if both jobs are quite low paid, you might want to allocate some of your tax free allowances to the second job. HMRC will do this for you if you tell them what you are earning at each job.
