Direct debit

My father does not have a current account,he only has a savings account can you set up a direct debit from just a savings account.Sorry if this a stupid question to sum but i have to deal with a few problems concerning my dad so any help will me much appreacated.Thanks for the replys.

    Depending on who the account is with look at

    Standing Order (much safer than DD as payer is in control)

    Open a Credit Card and give continuous authority (even more dangerous than a DD, but handy.)

    You can't normally set up an external DD on a Savings account .... only an internal one to within your Bank group.

    Whatever you do (above) ... don't set up a recurring payment on a Credit Card. They're a nightmare if they go wrong .... there's no protection for you other than opening a formal 'dispute'. And you're likely not to succeed with one of those.
