IT'S GOT SEX, VIOLENCE, GENOCIDE, WHOLESALE DESTRUCTION and a whole lot more. What's more, it's not a digitally-enhanced,
FX-laden Hollywood snoozeathon but the real thing.
And its stars are not mega-bucks actors fuelled by egos but spiders, beetles, ants, snails, caterpillars and mos-quitoes.
This is Microcosmos, a truly amazing and awe-inspiring film just released (10 March) in special edition form on DVD from Second Sight.
An amazing 15 years in the making from its original inception, including three years of actual filming, this multi-award winning film presents insect life in all its glory, focusing on numerous different creatures going about their daily life.
Filmed entirely in a French meadow, Microcosmos follows a typical day, taking in all aspects of life from birth, work and conflict to death — and offers a universe that is as alien as the very best sci-fi.
This critically-acclaimed feature won five Cesars: the prestig-ious French equivalent of an Oscar. It famously features, among others, two snails making love, a colony of ants under attack and, perhaps most memorably, a beetle pushing a ball of dung up a hill.
The narration, by Kristin Scott-Thomas, is kept to a bare mini-mum, as directors Claude Nuridsany and Marie Perennou let the marvellous images do their work.
As well as spending three years filming Microcosmos, the pro-duction took a further two years to develop the cameras and technology needed to capture the cornucopia of creepy-crawlies up close and personal.
Stunningly remastered for this special edition DVD, the incredible Microcosmos looks better than ever before. This is an astonishing film that invites us to share the trials and tribulations of its wonderful cast.
Special Features include The World of Microcosmos, The Making of Microcosmos and The Story of 5 Cesars.MotorBar has three copies of this truly awesome film to give away. To enter, answer the following question —
