sorry if this takes a long time to explain,
i have an account with a catalogue , had it about 6 years
always paid, but just lately finding it hard due to very high utility bills and being disabled i am in all day and although we cut down on consumption of gas and electric finding it hard to keep up with paymnets to catalogue,
i rang and explained that now i am on benefits and offered a reduced payment, the refused and said i needed to pay more,
i have today received a letter from them saying they will accept an offer of what they say i had to pay, this is too high for me to manage and i am in a right state, i dont know what to do
i have been told to request a CCA and heve got letter ready , but i have always prided myself of paying me debts and i want to , but i cannot afford what they say
where do i go now ? do i struggle and pay what they say and not pay my other bills eg electic bill or do i refuse and pay less,
if i refuse to pay what they say what happens, i am so frightened as i have never been like this before

I would stick to your guns and tell them you can't afford the payments they want from you but you will continue to send them the amount you offered every month.
Then send the amount you want to pay them. I have 3 catalogues I did this too. You just have to keep saying the same.
It is far more important to pay all your priorities like rent, bills, council tax than a catalogue!0 -
thank you rayday2 for your advice,
very much appreciated,0 -
With regard to CCA they are quite complicated where catalogues are concerned. Here is some information if you decide to go that route http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=32_catalogue_debts
I understand what you mean about wanting to pay them back, I felt the same you know you got the goods you just want to be able to pay them at a rate that is not crippling.
If you look round the national debt helpline website they have all sorts of template letters information, it may give you more confidence in dealing with them.0 -

thanks so much for the information,
i have always paid my debts and thought i was doing the right thing by ringing them, but the man on the phone was awful, he made me feel so guilty and to be honest i would have done anything for just a little understanding,
i can see now why people just stop paying things, because i wish i hadnt have bothered being straight with them, i will try and keep paying them though , but i dont know whether to now request a CCA , i cannot remember signing anything off them but who knows
thanks again for your reply
