    Thanks for the reply.
The default was over a dispute - where they'd over charged me... and refused to take to come to a compromise.

Im worried that there updating the file every month - so the default wont be taken off until after 6 years - after it has been settled.

Does anyone know how i find out the date of the first default?
    Comments much appreciated

The default date will be shown on your credit report.

What can we do to get a decent credit score, where have we gone wrong?
We have lived in the UK all our lives except for 5yrs when in NZ, we returned 2 years ago.
We are both in our late 30`s and and jointly we earn over 55k a year. we own 2 houses, 2 cars, no debts except for a purposly aquired cc (in order to gain credit histroy) with 3k on it.

how can we get a loan we have apllied to the Northern Rock amongst others and always get declined.

we appreciate by aplying we are redcucing our credit score, we have checked this out and it appears that you have to be in the uk fo 3 years to gain good credit.

    any help appreciated[/quote]

    Hi Mick,

there are various ways to increase your credit score one of them is
deleting errors in forty eight hours, this is the fastest way to rectify your credit. deleting negative credit will also help to get credit score positively.

any replies or suggestions are most welcome.

    Regards.

Dude, none of this makes sense. Deleting what errors ? How ?
And why have you got a link in your signature for barclays commercial lending in India ? Are you just unaware of forum rules, or another idiot spammer ? Reported just in case.

  • Hi,

I have been managing my money well since I realised my credit rating was a little low a few years ago. I hadnt missed a payment for 2 and a half years on any of my credit accounts.
My company is struggling financially and as a result paid us a week late in november. My credit card direct devbit bounced but I realised this and managed to pay the exact amount on the same day (and they refunded the late payment charge). However I did not know that my direct debit was automatically cancelled - so as a result I missed the next payment date (presuming that I was being paid as normal by direct debit). As soon as I realised this (a few days after the date) I paid off the amount +more. I rang the bank and they told me that it would be registered as a late payment.
I have got my company to draft a letter explaining the reason for being paid late - but The bank told me that this probably wouldnt make any difference?! What can I do - it seems crazy that I am being penalised for something that was out of my control. I am now probably seen as a credit risk all because of my company. Can anyone give me some advice with this? I would really appreciate it.

    Will
  • Will,

Best thing to do is see if your cc company actually registered this as a missed payment with the credit ref bureaus.

Normally they dont unless its over 30 days late, if they have not dont panic. Just make sure its paid asap.

Secondly even if it has been registered as a missed payment its no big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Your credit file will look like

    0100000

its only when 2 or 3 missed payments start appearing that credit scoring logs actually penalise you with any seveirty.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi
I have just gone through a loan application with A&L. I already have an existing loan with them and was just adding 5k to it and adding my partner onto the loan. The rate I already have with my existing loan is 8.9%, and before going through the application she was quoting me prices based on this rate. However, after going through the application she ended up with a rate of over 12% and said it was best they could do. I am hesitant to take on this loan now as it means 8k turns into around 10k of debt. Would adding my partner have affected what rate they could give or is it due to credit crunch? I ended the call by saying i probably wont take out the loan but now I am worried that if my partner applies for one on his own with another company then that will add another search to his credit report. What sort of mark is made on a credit rating if you apply but dont take out the loan? I asked A&L if i could make any amendments to the loan amound I had applied for but she said it would mean starting a new application all over again, is this right?
  • I am settling a loan early at an agreed reduced settlement figure. How will this effect my credit rating and any future borrowing?
  • I'm a bit confused with my reports...

Experian has determined my credit score as 915 and excellent whereas Equifax has determined it as 310 and poor?

hmmmm quite a big discrepancy

    any ideas?

I'm a bit confused with my report as well. Just signed up to the free trial with Experian and although a lot of my credit history is on there, there are also a lot of things missing such as a current credit card and my mobile phone account. Does some credit history go to Experian and other credit history go to other agencies? Is it worth me signing up to another agency to see what the differences are? And when applying for credit does anyone know how the company decides which agency they're going to check your credit score with? It doesn't make sense for a company to keep a credit record for you when they give to pick and choose what they put on there -doesn't give a fair overview of your ability to keep up repayments. It's an absolute minefield!
