To ebay or not to ebay?

Hello everyone
,
Quite an easy going question to ponder on (or not if you don't want to) a Friday night!
I have been wondering over the last few days whether to sell a few items I have on ebay (something that never occurred to me pre-BR, as in to help raise funds!), ie a games console I no longer use, some DVD's, a pair of jeans that are too short and anything else that goes in my spring clean / fresh start / new man 2008 regimen and as I'm absolutely bloomin skint, currently on income support, and any extra funds would help me greatly...
What I'm wondering is, would the OR be interested in the proceeds from these sales?
I understand this is probably one of those questions that is down to the individuals discretion, but I've been dying to ask it, so...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...:T

Hi AmIdone4,
I'd say go ahead and do it. The O.R may be interested, but ebay are not interested in talking to them; have you seen where they're based?;)
We had quite a lot of sizeable credits to our bank account from paypal and the O.R was very interested. He asked me several times to write a letter of authorisation so they could access our ebay/paypal accounts, and I kept forgetting.
By the time I remembered we'd been discharged.:T :T

Have you got a "Gamestation" shop near you or cash convertor type place as you could see what you could get for your PS2 there (not a lot i would have thought) and have it in cash, compre the final selling prices on ebay to what you can get at any of the above and take into account the costs of listing, final value fee (just been increased by ebay) and paypl fee's.
I've got quite a bit of stuff to sell on ebay but i think any money from paypal is either going to sit in the account till discharge or i will just transfer it into my OH's paypal account so she can transfer it into her bank account and she can give me the cash, not that i am trying to hide anything just to stop any problems with the OR, none of the items are big in value but the lot together if sold would be worth quite a bit but give the stuff to the OR to get rid of via a government auction and it would fetch peanuts, as they have shown with my bike.Life is like a game of Snakes & Ladders, i almost made it to the top but now i'm at the bottom again and its a very long ladder to the top. I had it all and now its gone
Well my 6 years are now up, now to start to rebuild my life again

I'd try any means of selling for cash before going the eBay route. Auctioning your things there means (a) either hoping bids reach your reserve, or hoping bids reach a price you can live with if you haven't set a reserve for them, & (b) you've still got to take into consideration time waiting for the auction to end, packaging & going to the post office, fees etc. Ebay's good in the normal run of things, but if you really need the money, it's not so good as you could lose a god bit in fees. Have you tried eBid ? It's not as big as eBay, but you don't pay for standard ads, & you only pay if the item sells. I've used them in the past - things don't sell as quickly, but if you have some things that you want to sell regardless of how long they take to go, it's a good site to use.
As well as places like Cash Converters, you could try your local papers - they usually have a free section of some kind. You can also advertise with Loot.com & gumtree.com for free.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."
