Hi all
I have just moved into a rented house and i am on a water meter, I just set up a direct debit with yorkshire water and they said the average amount for 2 adults and a small child is £30 a month.
Is this about right? or are they charging me massive direct debits like most utility companies??
Many thanks

That's what i've been told also. Myself and my fiance rent a 2 bedroom flat. We have been on water rates paying £70 per month as our annual bill is nearly £500. We asked to swap to a water meter and they said we can expect our monthly bill to drop to £25-£30ish. We will probably pay the higher value as I'd rather overpay and get it back than underpay and struggle to pay the difference. Our meter is due to be fitted next month - it sounds as if it will save us a lot. HOWEVER a colleague of mine lives in a 3 bed house with his wife and daughter and pays £9.99pm - he is on a meter. He has fitted lots of water-saving devices though - flush limiters and such like I think! Seems you can save a packet (if what he tells us is true!)0

We're not on a meter, but we pay 20 a month with Thames Water for a one-bed flat.0

 Hey sweetie,
We're on a meter and we pay £17 a month for a (tiny victorian) three bed house containing 3 adults and one teenager.
From reading countless SOA's I can tell you that most people on here seem to pay more than us.
(but our council tax is £150 so that evens it all out a bit!

Hi, we had a meter fitted late last summer, we're South west water which has some of the highest charges, anyway I have just has our water bill which was £99, I was paying £50 a month direct debit, but as this was over the top I phoned and had it adjusted to £35. So even if you feel that what they say you have to pay to start with is alot, maybe like me you can reduce it once they can assess just how much your family use! I hope this makes sense! We are living in a 3 bed semi - 2 adults and 2 kids.0

My water bill has just come in - I'm in a 3-bedroomed semi-detached and the bill for the year is £454.39. Having checked at work with other people, I'll be switching to a water meter!

Hi - we don't actually pay ours, because it's included in our rent, but as I recall it's about £216 a year (£18 a month) - not metered, Thames Water. This is a 3 bed flat, with 2 adults and a toddler. When we moved in, in 1997, it was £780 based on water rates, but then moved to the want-a-meter-can't-have-one scheme that TW runs....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
