How do I speed up a Remortgage?

Hi everyone, was hoping someone could advise me on my dilemma.. Im trying to get my new remortgage with First Direct through in the next 2.5 weeks.. At the moment they anticipate having the obligatory account open by tomorrow and then they can work on setting up the mortgage itself. Am I being unrealistic in attempting to get it pushed through so quickly? Also does anyone have any advice on how to go about doing this aside from pestering them everyday which im not sure helps? First Direct have been very efficient thus far but because of the high demand for their 4.75% fix they anticipate 6-8 weeks to complete. I realise I should have started the remortgage earlier - in the past its only taken 4 weeks so this was a bit of a shock. Thanks in advance for any advice.. Hubble

Hi Hubbles,
You should find oodles of info on this thread. Lots of people's time lines sorting out their FD mortgages.
It won't make comfortable reading though if you are hoping for 2.5 weeks. We started the process at the beginning of Feb and we are nearly there, with no hold-ups.0 -
In my long experience those that pester most suffer most. I think this is due to mistakes being made due to too many hands touching the file which leads to mistakes and oversights.
It also leads to less efficientcy because if staff are merely updating clients they are'nt adding value, they are merely spectating as opposed to actually working on a case.0 -
6-8 for a remortgage start to completion is good. I think you may have to wait, I would you are getting a very good deal.

Inmydreams - thanks for the quick reply - im off to look at that thread right now!!
Conrad - Thanks - i thought it might be the case - I certainly dont want to slow it up. I was hoping there would be a way of encouraging them to do it more quickly - i guess its not just me in this boat though and everyone wants theirs done asap too..
Dan - Cheers - its a great deal - slight sting in tail with £1500 fee but i think its worth it!0 -
I bought my place in 6-8 weeks I can't understand why a remortgage should take 6-8 weeks, I do believe it does, but can't understand it.....0

i too am remortgaging with first direct, its nearly complete for me, just waiting for the legal docs to sign.
hopefully it will be completed by the end of the month - so 6 weeks from start to finish really.
it takes this long because f.d are busy with mortgages at the minute, due to the good offers they have had.
a friend remortgaged with f.d last year and it took just under 4 weeks.
try the thread in my dreams posted, lots of info and timelines including mine.
good luck !0
