Sorry about that but my arms are killing me, so a bit slower than usual.

Had injections this evening in both - innoculations for Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Polio, Tetanus and Yellow Fever

I am hoping that such a nasty session at the doctors is all in a good cause, and you are flying off to somewhere wonderful?

Hi. Yes going on our 6th holiday to SRI LANKA in late May.

Don't actually need any of the jabs for this but was at the doctors last week and enquired if we were still up to date with our innoculations. Apart from additional Typhoid ones in '97 and '02, all the others were '94 with a "10 year" protection span, so we decided to get them updated for general coverage and likely future trips to "dodgier" places.

Feeling quite a bit better today - aches in the arms almost gone.

Also had two bits of good luck which has "cheered me up" somewhat.

For Sri Lanka we will take the appropriate Malaria tablets which were going to cost about £40 for the 2 lots of the 7 week course. As it happened someone offered exactly what we needed on Freecycle, I was successful and they posted them to me (their suggestion) - even refusing my offer to pay the P&P !!!!

The second bit was what to do about flying from Gatwick and living in Derby.
We started looking a while ago having always driven before.
So drive and park again? Perhaps an overnight stay with some included parking? Is coach possible (maybe cheap but long and tiring) or how about a train ?
We're going with brother-in-law and wife, so 4 of us altogether.
Ruled out coach almost immediately, and due to flight times an overnight stay was all but pointless.
Worked out car (fuel & parking) was going to be about £140 and that the train was £232, and given that we had to change trains at St Pancras (and get to Victoria - or so we thought) to continue to Gatwick, we started hunting for the cheapest parking option again.

Then more recently found that 8 singles instead of 4 returns could be as little as £144, and the change at St Pancras was only to another train at St Pancras (since Nov 2007 some Gatwick trains run there as well as Victoria), so reconsidered driving option (M1, M25, road works, accident, jams , delays, tired on the return trip of 170 miles - some in the dark) and decided the train would be the most relaxed. Then only a few days ago found a "new" cheaper train option - exactly same trains, journeys & times but booked as a "4-sight for 4" deal (basically a 4 persons return ticket). Very restricted availability and whilst the outbound leg was "on the timetable", the return one hadn't been released and therefore no part of the deal could be booked.
We been checking several times a day after Trainline and the other companies involved could offer no idea as to when the June 4th reservations we needed would appear on the timetable.

Anyway, checked again and there they were. Got in immediately, fortunately still "vacancies" for the outbound journey we wanted (having been bookable for possibly a week or two) and then those lovely "just released" return journey tickets on the day and at the time we've been hanging on for.

Done and dusted ! Can relax now that's sorted !

    Oh! Forgot to mention! ...........

............ 4 persons travelling from Derby to St Pancras, change to another train at St Pancras and straight into Gatwick Airport arriving about 1 hour 40 minutes before check-in, ...............

...... 15 days later ......... about 1 hour 50 minutes after landing (should be enough for passports, baggage reclaim and customs) hop on train back to St P, switch to the Derby train, 4 persons back in Derby for 11pm, in bed for midnight !!!!

    Total cost ? 4 Derby-Gatwick return tickets with "4-sight for 4" ?
