Freebie for teachers - Edinburgh Dungeon

I picked up a voucher in the staffroom a couple of years ago which offered a free teacher preview visit for FOUR to go to Edinburgh Dungeon. I used it without any problems.

This year we were going to Edinburgh for the weekend so I thought I'd see how many free family activities I could score. I phoned the Dungeons and said I'd like a teacher preview visit & they sent me a voucher like the one I'd had before. Then I phoned Edinburgh Castle - they only let me in free & I had to pay for the rest of the family, but still - worth having! Our Dynamic Earth also let me in free and I booked online for the kids & OH so got a discount there too. The Museum of Childhood is free anyway so we had a really cheap weekend!

I'm sure the Dungeons in York & London would offer a similar service - well worth checking - and my Classroom Assistant is going to try it too, on the basis that she's the one who actually books all the trips!

Glasgow Science Centre is another place that allows free visits so there must be loads of potential in this!

Goodness, I visited York Dungeon a few years back...didn't see a lot of it...too huddled into boyfriend's shoulder to look! But I remember Andrew saying: *Imagine a busload of schoolkids in here?? They'd be lapping it up*..he took his two nephews the following weekend - and he was right - they would *not* stop talking about it!! :D

Or maybe we shouldn't abuse this and leave for the teachers who might find this a useful service and our kids might get the chance to go on more trips.

To be honest I'd never take a class to the Dungeons - location isn't great for us as far as bus drop offs etc & there are many other attractions in Edinburgh we'd be more likely to go to. I don't feel remotely guilty having a preview for myself & family of a place I wouldn't visit as my kids and OH suffer a great deal for my job - being dragged places so I can check them out, putting up with me never really switching off and always looking for a slant on a subject I can use.

Your kids won't get more trips if their teachers get more preview visits as we are limited by costs - parents complain like mad if we organise too many trips and they have to pay for them, so we aren't allowed more than one "trip" - correct terminology actually "educational visit" - a year.
  • I am with you here - would love to take the kids on more visits but the parents won't pay for them. I do think that people shouldn't be asking for free tickets when they are not actually looking at the place for a visit though.
  • on the side of a pack of 80 tetley tea bags their is a 2 for 1 entry voucher you can use at the dungeons.
they were only £1.00 a pack in iceland on monday, don't know if they still are
