CeMAP training

Hi all, i am wanting to start a career as a mortgage advisor, so am wanting to start my CeMAP training, but am unsure who to use. Will potential employers want to know who trained me, as there seems to be alot of fast track training schemes out there which i think i should avoid.
So far, the best (i think) i found is a multimedia home training course, with loads of books, E books, email tutor help, and the cd for practice tests, which costs around £450.
Anyone have any suggestions of who i should go with?
Thanks, Rob.

I did a search before i posted, there is alot of talk about people starting the training, but i cant find any advice about who people reccomend to study with.
I would like to do it from home.
Also, i am hopefully changing jobs from a salesperson to customer service in a bank next week, so once i get in with the bank im hopeing to move accross to mortgage advice, but as far as i can tell, its going to be for the best to have at least level 1 CeMAP?0 -
If you get into the bank on a customer service position then you should not need any cemap qualifications. I would simply goto the IFS website and register there and then get your study guides there.
When employed by the bank, I am sure you will have plenty of resources around you to help answer or explain things to you. Paying for someone to fast track you will only get you the qualifications, they teach you to pass the exam not learn the job.
I would look at a 12 month plan and book your first exam for 3 or 4 months from the day you receive the study material and then just work through it until you understand it. By setting yourself a test date, it will keep you focused.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I remember reading somewhere that working from a customer service role in a bank is a good way to go about being an advisor, and although it will mean a drop in pay, it has to be a more secure job than direct marketing.
As for the IFS, i am not clued up on them at all, though im assuming that its the place where you apply to do the exam? But when you say register, do you sign up as a paid member then they help you out?
I will do a few more searches on here to see what i can find out about it, and thanks again.0 -
If you want to do CeMAP you have to register with the IFS.
You get your binder, your mock exams and a CD to test yourself.
Don't waste your money on those fast track training or the training you are mentioning in your post. They are a waste of time. best is to read the stuff you have which when you get it is a lot. then as mentioned just book your exam and go for it. Some of the stuff in CeMAP one you will come across as a customer service bank person anyway like ICOB.0 -
I hoped as much, i also have A levels in Economics and Business which i'm hoping will help me out at some point.
When you register, are you expected to buy all the modules at once, or does that not really matter?
Apart from that You've answered the only questions i couldnt find answers to about this, i want to go for my final interview knowing what im talking about, thanks.0 -
you purchase your first one for £105 I think and you can do the 3 papers in any order. Paper 1 is Booooooorrrrrrring but important. Paper 2 is more about the products and more relevant to the day to day stuff. Paper 3 helps you get a general feel on how to provide advice. I would probably do paper 2 or 1 first then do 3 last.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. The IFS bundles the Folder with the CD and the mock exam papers and it is around £300 last time I checked. But if you really want to get places then now is the time to study CeFA and then you can be both mortgage adviser and Financial adviser. Do the modules as the IFS wants you to take them. Its easier that way, as the refer to the stuff you should have read before in order.
If you have a branch mortgage adviser there, should be able to help you, but might not have enought time todo so due to meeting their targets.
I am so glad to be a broker. Remember as a bank mortgage adviser you are really just a seller.0
