I have posted many times over the last few weeks about me getting in control of my debts by starting a DMP with CCCS .I have now opened a new bank account but my old bank which is Lloyds TSB i have a select plus account where i pay £7.00 per month for things like travel insurance,AA breakdown etc .I will now have no income going into that account so i just rang phone banking to down grade ,i do have internet banking but i can not see an option for cancelling ,they say i have to go into a branch to do this .I really do not want to go into branch as i know they want to get me there so they can discuss my situation they already know now about my DMP do you think this is right would i have to go into branch ?
I would just like to add i am up to my max on my overdraft with Lloyds which is included in DMP was i supposed to close the account down with Lloyds ,i suppose i cant with owing them £1300 on a overdraft .

You don't have to go into branch to do this.
Try phoning PhoneBank on 0845 3000 000 and tell them you want to downgrade. This can be done over the telephone in a matter of minutes. There is no requirement to visit a branch to get this done.Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!

They are a pain Lloyds i have rang phone banking the lady said at first she could do it then she said because my account is in collections i have to go into branch.
What should i do should i go into branch ? I am just wondering why they are saying i have to go in .I will be paying £7.00 per month for nothing if i dont .0 -
Hiya, My account was in collections as well. I was paying £10 a month for my account. I went in and changed mine to a free account in January this year. Fast-forward one month and I went to pay money in (to slowly pay off overdraft) and was told my account had been closed and has been passed to a DCA. I am unable to access online banking but still have nothing in writing over a month later.
Am glad I wasn't using this account for anything. I had tried to cancel the £10 charge before but was always told I couldn't because I had used it to get a better rate loan. Hope this makes sense! Something to be aware of if you are still using your account for direct debits and stuff.DFW Nerd No 953 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -

i had to do the same to downgrade as well but i went into the branch and it was done within minutes and the lady in the branch was very nice.

it will be better then paying the charge although they are still charging my husband interest when the said they wouldnt (no suprise there though)
take care
