taking holiday at same time as Paternity pay

my wife is due to give birth in mid september. i was planning to take holiday if my company offer me no better than SPP , otherwise i will lose out financially. my question is: is it possible to claim SPP while on paid leave from work?

many thanks

I would imagine not as I think for a woman if she works during her maternity leave, then she loses her money. I would imagine it's the same for a man.

Seems a little unfair, but there you go. I'm due in mid October and my bf will have to take paid holiday off as the paternity pay won't be enough for us.

I could be wrong (in fact I hope I am), but I'd assumed that it was just what we had to do and assumed that we wouldn't get both (his salary and his paternity pay).

Can they not run on from eachother?

I used some of my holiday entitlement both before and after my period of SMP.

So if you have holidays left to take I can't see why you wouldn't be allowed to take SPP and then a few weeks holiday

I would have through that it has to be one or the other - i.e. you take it as paternity, or if you do not wish to do this, for whatever reason - in your case you state financial, then your alternative is to take it as holiday.
I can think of similar cases where you cannot have both e.g. SMP + holiday, SSP + holiday.

    No, sorry

SSP is intended to allow fathers (and partners of mothers) time off to support the mother or care for the child. It's there to ensure that a small amount of income is provided to cover (in part) the loss of earnings this involves. You can't have both (ie salary payment from being on full paid leave) and the Statutory funding, because then you would actually be better off, and there's no loss of earnings.

You can take Holidays if you don't want to lose the income. You can take SSP if you don't want to use your holiday days. You can take one after the other. But you cant take them both on the same days!

Perhaps 1 week Paternity leave on SSP and 1 week paid leave would be a good compromise?

Don't shout at me now - I dont make the rules!
