My ex husband owes some money on my house which at the moment is in both our names. He is going to pay off what he owes and sign the house over to me.
Do i need a solicitor to swap deeds over etc or will i be able to do it on my own???
Thanks

Is there a mortgage outstanding? If so, then your lender will make life very difficult for you unless you use a solicitor who is a member of their panel.
Otherwise, it could be done by yourself but learning how to do it would be quite a bit of work, and there would always be the anxiety that you might have made an expensive mistake. A better solution would be to use a licensed conveyancer, who will know exactly what to do but charge less than a solicitor.0 -
It is called a transfer of equity and usually best done via a solicitor.
If there is a mortgage involved you may need to obtain a new mortgage offer from either your current lender or a new one. There is no guarantee that you will be accepted by a mortgage company to take on a previously joint mortgage as the normal underwriting criteria will apply.0 -
The mortgage company i am with has sent me the forms to fill in to transfer the mortage into my name once my ex has paid off what he owes.
There is still a mortgage on the property which i have been paying myself since we split 6 years ago. When i phoned to ask about it they said once my ex has paid off what he owes it will cost me £150 to transfer the mortgage into my name, pending mortgage acceptance, (but i was hoping just to stay with them as it is now) it was just taking exs name off the deeds i wondered about.
Don't really want to be paying a fortune in solicitors fees (which i can't really afford anyway) just to have deeds transfered over soley to me.0
