I've tried to do a search and didn't find anything - probably because I don't really know what they are called
Can anyone recommend a cheapish decent freeview box that can record?
I desperatly want to get rid of Virgin but use the record feature quite a lot.
Thanks

Go to Amazon.co.uk and search for Freeview DVR. I don't know which are good ones, but some have customer reviews.

Also known as PVRs (Personal Video Recorder)
Here's a link describing what's available on the market.

We have one like this http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=4V01&CategorySelectedId=11225&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11225&InMerch=1 which we got from Dabs over a year ago, not sure if it is this one or the 160GB one but it was a refurbished one for £65 which was a good deal then so they have obviously dropped quite a bit in price! It works really well unless I use my hairdryer while it is recording then the recording is jumpy. A friend bought a more expensive one they weren't happy with but when they saw ours they sent theirs back and got one the same as ours.0
