Debt Advice

  • Just looked at https://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk as suggested and have found that (as with IVA's), you have to have 3 or more individual creditors! As I said in my original post:

Having tried CAB and various companies who supposedly do IVA's, we can see no way of sorting this out. All the IVA companies seem to only want to know if your debt is with certain companies (not HSBC who her loan is with) and if you have 3 creditors or more (foolishly, in hindsight, we scraped up what little we could to pay off a few small debts so this no longer applies!!!)

She now has one debt with HSBC (the massive one!), a smaller one with CAPITA for a a few hundred quid and well, that's it! She has no credit cards and her mum has very kindly paid off her overdraft (although that was with HSBC too so it wouldn't have counted as a separate creditor anyway...)...the only other thing she has is an Evans storecard, but we scraped up what we could and paid off the balance before we realised any othis '3 creditors' stuff. ARRGGGHH!!!!

    Thanks to you all!

None of the companies we've spoken to so far (or CAB) have ever mentioned a DMP!

My girlfriend actually got in touch with CCCS a few weeks ago and has a telephone interview scheduled with them next week (they're pretty busy, apparently!). I'll make sure she asks about a DMP.

I assume that those of you who have gone through CCCS are happy with the results/service?

CCCS have been a total life saver for me. :T They sent me out a letter to sign which i had to send back with proof of all the debts such as credit agreement or downloaded bank statements as i had paperless banking and also proof of all income, wage slips, or if its board from children a letter from them stating this or if its benefits then a letter from the benefit you are receiving. My debt counsellor still keeps in touch with me by email and i can mail her daily if i need to, which i don't but she is so supportive :A . I have absolutely no complaints about cccs they saved me from going over the edge. Once you are in the system there is always support they dont just sort you out and then leave you to get on with it:)

They are very busy and yes it does seem along time until you finally get your appointment, i waited approx. 5 weeks but the wait was worth it. At your appointment they will give you all the options of how to deal with the debt. They will also offer you the option of taking the debt on board for you and dealing with it all which means that you will have a DD for one lump sum, which is the amount left after the budget has been done, on the 1st of the month and cccs will distribute this for you to all your creditors by the 25 of the month. The budget they will give you will be fair. you will have an allowance for clothing, hair cuts, glasses, prescriptions, to name just a few. You're even allowed a night out. Try not to worry just inform all your creditors that your dealing with CCCS and give them the ref no. and they will stop hassling you until after the date of your meeting. Please post and let us know how you get on as it will be useful to others in this position and well done for taking the step to dealing with it :T

I dont know of any clause with CCCS on this, as far as i know if you have a debt they will deal with it. Did you have alook a the cccs website by any chance? there is a questionair to fill inbit like a quize which tells you whether or not you need their help, maybe worth a look :)Don't pay off any more and certainly don't allow creditors to bully you into paying more than you can afford:)
  • Thanks, I'll let you know how we get on!
