Advice needed.

Hi.

This is my first post, and I really need some advice, bear with me.

My partner had an Abbey account which he tried to close down some months ago when he opened an account with another bank. All the direct debits were transfered to this new account, exept for one, Our Talk Talk account. We didnt realise and still dont know why it wasnt transfered. The Abbey account never got closed. My partner phoned to ask why, and they told him it was £3.48 overdrawn. He said, ok, I will pay this now so I can close it once and for all. They said no, you cant do that over the phone. He works all day monday to saturday, so cant go to our branch.

We got a bill last month from Talk Talk for £15, so I phoned to arrange payment, asked why it hadnt been payed and they said the bank account had been closed. I payed the £15 there and then and gave them the new account details.

Monday morning, two letters arrive. One from Abbey, one from Talk Talk
The one from Abbey says the supposedly closed account was -£40, and the one from Talk Talk was another bill which has jumped from £15 to £32 in a month, even after I payed the first one.

My partner left work early on tuesday to go to the bank and pay the £40 and close the account, only to be told we now owe nearly £200!!!! The woman at the desk told us AOL had been trying to take money from the account, thus leaving all the charges. (We have AOL broadband free with Talk Talk, but already had the broadband before we took up the Talk Talk offer). We dont yet know exactly who is trying to take DDs, yet. My partner obviously refused to pay the money to the bank.

I have had two more letters today, one from T T, one from their debt collector. The T T one says we owe £47, and the debt collector says we now owe £57. I just rang T T, and they said I made a payment on Feb 18th. How can it jump to £57 in one month??????

I came on here to ask if anyone knows what the hell we should do. We do not owe this money, and we still havnt had a letter from Abbey telling us we owe nearly £200. Who should we talk to? how do we stop any more charges being added on top?

I hope this all makes sense. Thanks in advance.
