rail travel

planning on travelling by train over the summer? I was quoted nearly£100.00 for Chesterfield to Yarmouth but on enqury discovered if I booked in advance using a family rail card I could save nealy£50.00!! and that included the price of the rail card!! If I already had got one I could have saved nearly£70.00!! The train staff are crafty and wont tell you this though.

I always check route prices on https://www.thetrainline.com before travelling, then you can either buy with them or terminate the session and buy at the station. I have one of the family circle free 3 month railcards that a previous thread told us about and am using it for day trips in the school hols as the kids vastly prefer it to boring car travel. Well worth it.

I also use thetrainline.com but if you can, it might also be worth checking your journey in different sections.

When we went from Glasgow to Rhyl in the summer (2 adults and 2 kids with family railcard) we could buy "direct" Super Advance Tickets for about £95 but if we bought single tickets to and from Glasgow to Warrington (where we changed trains anyway) and saver returns from Warrington to Rhyl it cost us a total of £67.00. Nearly two thirds of the price for the same journey.

I think it was a special offer in June's copy of the Family Circle Magazine.

Unless someone can give you the voucher I don't think you would be able to get it now.
