I have a friend training as a pharmacist who got army funding and then joined the army. She is really enjoying it. She was saying how good the leaving packages are for the forces, too.

That said I have had a few friends with forces fathers who were not bad fathers, but strict and cold and unable to relate to their children.

John McCain's son returned from a tour in Iraq in 2008.

And gave his father a great deal of political capital to use because he'd done so.

Is that it, just one out of our parliament, and their house of congress and representatives, that is quite disgraceful, and shows just how cowardly the politicians are.

Err no that was the first one that came to mind I could go to a US mil forum if you want me to find some more for you.I don't know much about UK politicians children apart from them "working " for their parents.

Ken Bigley wasn't army. I really don't see your point with this. There isn't much chance of your regular squaddie, especially one straight from the factory being captured. Shot/Injured? Maybe. Captured? No.

Its so sad seeing that people still think that the iraq war was to remove a dictator, that being the case why hasnt mugabe been removed with force?
could it be theres no oil to protect in africa?
the whole iraq war was just a ploy so america could gain control of the oil reserves, which is backe up by the deal that was signed.

Except that America does not have control of the oil reserves.

Who wants oil when you can get rubies, diamonds, emeralds, gold, silver and various other commodities from Zimbabwe.

Iraq, was not about Oil, or dictator removal. It was about MWD. (Or so they said)

Further to Snakeeyes comment, Sadaam Hussein was planning to sell oil in Euros and not Dollars (As are Iran and Venezuela)). This would have been a very serious blow to the US economy. Nobody actually believes the rubbish about WMDs any more (not even the politicians who used the lie, even G W Bush made a joke about it). The "45 minute" claim was just a method to scare the public and make the war seem more necessary.
The US is not going to leave Iraq any time soon, because of the bases which it has built there, and the largest embassy anywhere in the World. Prior to the Iranian revolution in 1979, the US had a massive embassy in Tehran, which was used by the CIA, to spy on Russia. The same now applies to Baghdad, except that now the US can keep tabs on Russia and Iran.
For the last hundred years, ever since oil was such a valuable commodity, the UK and US have basically pillaged the Middle East oil reserves, helped largely by friendly dictators, who subjugate their own people in return for wealth and military assistance - Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Iran. When these countries go "Off message", then we use military force to remind them who really controls the oil.
I for one do not condone setting up dictatorships in order to secure other country's wealth, and I certainly do not agree with killing hundreds of thousands of people, just because the "friendly dictator" goes "feral".
